"When the player perishes, he will come back to life with minimal HP"

Regenerate is an alchemy formula. It is one of Horace's Call Bead abilities.

Unlike other Call Bead abilities, the player must physically locate this ability in a container somewhere in Evermore for Horace to use. It shares this with Aura, for a total of 2 unlockable Call Bead spells.

Acquisition[]

The chest containing Regenerate is in the Great Pyramid. After defeating the Sons of Anhur but before releasing the Dog from its chamber, use the Dog to open the lower-right gate on the floor. The gate leads to a room that requires the Bronze Axe to access. Inside is a pot with the Regenerate formula.

The Regenerate chest cannot be looted until the player has met and spoken to Horace about his discoveries on Call Beads. Trying to do so will give this message to the player: "won't open".

This fact ties into making the ability permanently missable. To obtain it, the player should NOT cross either collapsing stone bridge in the southeast corner of the Pyramid's lower level until:

Horace's Call Beads
  • Getting the Dog ready to step on (or already standing on) the relevant gate switch

Failing to do any of these requirements (or flat-out overlooking the Regenerate chest) will squander the player's chance to acquire Regenerate, as the sunken bridges don't reset from exiting and re-entering the dungeon!

Usage[]

Regenerate bestows the same status on targets as Pixie Dust, automatically reviving them from death when their HP hits 0 and healing them 60 HP. The Moxa Stick charm boosts this healing by 25%, to 75 HP.

Trivia[]

Failing to acquire the spell on the first pyramid visit is not a deal-breaker in and of itself. While late-game visits mean that some outer doors can't be entered and the character separation mechanic is a bit wacky, the latter can be overcome with some L/R button usage when the dog is on a switch. Provided a southeast bridge has not been prematurely crossed, Regenerate can be retrieved belatedly.

Great Pyramid Sinking Bridges

A player using the sniff exploit to cross the sinking bridges, without making them sink.

It is possible, yet decently difficult to use the Dog#Dog Sniff Exploit to cross the sinking bridges without making them sink. Every bridge has a small checkpoint area that when entered when the player is controlling both the Hero and the Dog, will make the bridge sink. The player must keep manoeuvring around these points, even when just passing by the bridges (not even when wanting to cross them), these checkpoints will trigger the collapse of the bridge. The one closest to the entrance to Horace Highwater's Regenerate room, will always trigger unless the player sticks to the wall north of it, when passing by.
