Skullclaw is an enemy in Secret of Evermore. It is a skull with wings and claws that appears in one area: Gothica's Chessboard.

The Skullclaw moves at a decent clip and attacks using collision damage. The linear paths of the Chessboard's hedge maze and the staircases beneath it makes it easy to anticipate their attacks, and they are easily pinned down with normal weapon attacks. Alchemy is particularly effective against the Skullclaw due to their negative magic defense.

Player improvement

The Skullclaw gives a good amount of experience and money, which makes it an optimal level grinding target, especially if the player also wants to level up Alchemy. The player can hunt down the Skullclaws around the Chessboard easily, then leave and return to respawn them as needed.

The Skullclaw's low defenses and HP against the rewards for killing it make it an excellent enemy to train against in the late game. Alchemy spells can kill them instantly even at low alchemy levels, and the money they reward will go towards replacing the ingredients lost. If fighting Skullclaws purely for the level grinding, Fireball or Explosion are the most convenient spells for the task, as Tinker is a very short distance away and sells Brimstone, Ethanol and Ash, needed to cast Fireball or Explosion.

When grinding for money, targeting three Skullclaws with Fireball/Explosion is efficient; each rewards 50 Gold Pieces and the ingredients to cast Fireball once cost 56 Gold Pieces or 52 Gold Pieces for Explosion when they are purchased from Tinker. With the Windwalker, it is cheaper to use Crush to kill the Skullclaws, as the ingredients for Crush when purchased from Blimp cost 36 Jewels or 18 Gold Pieces per cast. However, this is far more inconvenient because the player will need to travel to Blimp and back when they run out of ingredients, a journey of several minutes. The player can expect to kill about 500 per hour, resulting in 200k experience and 25k Gold Coins.
