Weapons in Secret of Evermore come in three primary types: Sword, Axe, and Spear. Each has four weapons in its category, one for each region of Evermore. There is also the Bazooka, a standalone weapon separate from these three with different mechanics for attacking. Instead of having different variants, the Bazooka equips different types of ammo.
Most weapons are required to progress in the game and cannot be skipped, with the exception being the Omnitopia weapons: Neutron Blade, Atom Smasher, and Laser Lance. Through use of certain mechanics (Dog Sniff Exploit), it is possible to also skip receiving the Horn Spear, the Bazooka and all 3 Omnitopia weapons; Neutron Blade, Atom Smasher and Laser Lance.
The 3 regular weapon types (excluding Bazooka) can perform a Clean Hit, when an enemy is hit with the tip of the weapon, which modifies total damage dealt by 1.25×. The target's Defense stat is applied first and the Clean Hit mechanic afterwards. The Silver Sheath effect is applied before the target's Defense stat is taken into account.
This is quite difficult and unreliable to perform, but does increase damage by a considerable amount. For the Axe weapon type, it is considerably easier, potentially offsetting the fact that they are the least used/useful type of the 3. Especially in speedruns or with savestate abuse, this mechanic could prove to be useful.
