The Coleoptera is a large insect fought in Prehistoria. It is a palette swap of Thraxx, and fought in the same location.

Strategy[]

The Coleoptera looks like Thraxx, but is a far more dangerous enemy and should not be underestimated. Unlike Thraxx, it opens up its ribcage at random, rather than when struck. This leaves the player vulnerable to its claws while attacking to get in. Coleoptera attacks with its claws and the same roar as Thraxx that damages the player and knocks them back. Note that she will continuously use the roar, trapping you in a death loop, if you apply any damage over time alchemy to her. It also uses Storm and Flash, which deal with heavy damage. (To be precise, both deal 188~249 magic damage on single target, or 126~166 magic damage on multi-target.) It can also shoot an electrical blast from its eyes, with the same visual as Electra-bolt, but no message will be given and it will always hit, piercing any immunities of the player (Aura, Barrier) and dealing 70 pure damage.

The player must keep an eye on their HP in this fight, as Coleoptera's alchemy attacks are very strong and can kill them in only a few hits unless they heal. Otherwise, keep your distance from Coleoptera to avoid its Left Claw and attack with alchemy or a charged spear throw. If the Lance has reached Level 2 or 3, it is very effective.

Player Improvement[]

The Coleoptera drops 4,000 Talons and gives 10,000 experience; though the money is substantial, it works out to a more meager 1,000 Gold Coins in Gothica. The Talons are very useful for buying alchemy ingredients in Prehistoria though. It also allows the player to retrieve the Wheel, an item needed for Tinker's rocket.

Etymology[]

Coleoptera is the name for the taxomic order made up of beetles.

Trivia[]

  • Even if Coleoptera has already spawned (when sent back to Prehistoria for the Wheel), if Thraxx has not been destroyed yet, it has to be fought first. Then the player has to enter the boss room again, to fight Coleoptera. This can only be done by cheating, as Thraxx is always the first boss encounter.
Coleoptera Selftarget
  • Just like with Thraxx, its Lightning Storm is sometimes targeted towards itself. This is most likely a bug.
  • Thraxx and Coleoptera bear a passing, possibly coincidental resemblance to members of the real-world group of prehistoric arthropods Thylacocephala.
